The Power of Antioxidants

Ever wonder why that sliced apple turns brown? It's oxidation, a process that involves some not-so-magical free radicals that can also affect our cells.⁣
Your body naturally produces free radicals (a highly reactive molecule) as a byproduct of normal metabolic processes. Your body also creates antioxidants (or uses what it gets from foods and supplements) to destroy the free radicals.  Normally there is a fair play of checks and balances between the two.

However, when the normal production of free radicals are elevated (stress response) or when the production of antioxidants slows. The balance is thrown off and we end up in a state of oxidative stress.
How Free Radicals Affect Your Body
Our bodies become inflamed the longer we sit in a state of oxidative stress and our health suffers;
  • Sleep: Oxidative stress can disrupt your sleep cycle by interfering with the production of melatonin, a hormone that helps you sleep. This disruption may lead to poor sleep quality, leaving you feeling tired and unrested.
  • Focus and Mental Clarity: Free radicals can affect brain function, leading to reduced focus, brain fog, and memory problems. Chronic oxidative stress may even contribute to cognitive decline over time.
  • Beauty and Skin Health: Free radicals can accelerate the aging process by breaking down collagen and elastin, leading to wrinkles, sagging skin, and dullness. Protecting your skin from oxidative damage is key to maintaining a youthful appearance.
  • Energy: When your body is overwhelmed with oxidative stress, it can impact your energy levels. Free radicals damage cells in your muscles and tissues, reducing your body’s ability to produce energy efficiently, leading to fatigue and sluggishness.
How to up our Antioxidants
One easy way to up your antioxidants is through your diet.
