Healthy Hair = Healthy You

While it may feel superficial to worry about your hair, in truth its impact on us is HUGE. According to a 2019 Yale University study, hair is one of the features most recalled after a social interaction. Plus, there are endless studies on the correlation between a “good hair day” and our self-esteem. It's natural to worry about our hair on a surface-level approach but how often are you paying attention to what IT is trying to tell YOU?

Our hair is a direct external reflection of our internal health. Without words, hair speaks the only way it will be heard: hair loss, brittleness, loss of luster, patchiness, early graying.
Like our skin, our hair is susceptible to the changes in our bodies. When we are undernourished, experiencing hormonal changes, undergoing periods of stress, or struggling with toxins and illness, our hair is quickly and deeply impacted.
Luscious hair is a sign of good health.
So how do we keep our hair happy on a biological level?

First lets start with the basics!
HYDRATION
VITAMINS
Keeping our bodies properly hydrated is the key to everything! When our body isn’t getting enough water it pulls it from our cells causing them to shrivel.

You see this externally as dry, cracked, wrinkled skin or limp hair with split ends. Plus when your cells are dehydrated your body will halt hair growth production to expend that energy in more crucial areas.

Learn more about how to properly hydrate.
Ensure you’re getting all the proper vitamins and nutrients in your diet! We recommend working with your doctor to get an up-to-date blood panel to determine your levels. Take a close look at your:
  • Iron: Essential for carrying oxygen to hair follicles. A deficiency can lead to anemia, which is often linked to hair loss, particularly in women.
  • Vitamin D: Plays a role in the creation of new hair follicles. A deficiency in vitamin D can lead to temporary hair shedding or even patchy hair loss.

Next, let's focus on upping your antioxidants!
Your body naturally produces free radicals (a highly reactive molecule) as a byproduct of normal metabolic processes. Your body also creates antioxidants (or uses what it gets from foods and supplements) to destroy the free radicals. Normally there is a fair play of checks and balances between the two.

However, when the normal production of free radicals are elevated (stress response) or when the production of antioxidants slows (aging). The balance is thrown off and we end up in a state of oxidative stress.

Oxidative stress causes inflammation in the body which is linked to one of the main mechanisms of hair loss and hair graying.
Essentially we’re stressed because we’re aging and aging because we’re stressed and through it all our hair is falling out and turning gray.
How to up our Antioxidants
One easy way to up your antioxidants is through your diet. Make sure your diet includes plenty of organic whole foods like berries, leafy green, nuts & seeds or fatty fish into your diet.

In addition to your diet lets look at some supplements our team recommends to help!
COLLAGEN
Collagen is a vital protein naturally produced by the human body, except this ability starts to decrease around the age of 30, which is why collagen supplementation has become such a buzzword in recent years. Type 1 collagen is the most common type of collagen found in the human body and plays an important role in skin, hair, and nail health.  However, not all collagen is made equal.

This is why we strongly recommend a highly bioavailable option like
Inner Beauty Collagen by Young Living.
Inner Beauty Collagen uses Marine collagen which;
  • Has a better amino acid profile than other types of collagen.
  • Is absorbed better by the body.
  • Is easier to digest.
  • Has a high concentration of glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline, which are the primary agents responsible for stimulating cell regeneration in the skin, hair, and nails.

PLUS, Inner Beauty Collagen includes antioxidants, Vitamin C, and zinc, which support collagen synthesis. The best part is the powder is odorless and flavorless, so you can simply mix it into any beverage of your choice making it an effortless routine addition.
Sulfurzyme by Young Living
Keratin is a fibrous protein that makes up the structure of hair, skin, and nails. One of the best ways to naturally up your keratin levels via Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) a source of organic sulfur that aids in keratin production plus it protects hair follicles from oxidative stress! Our entire team loves Sulfurzyme - its available in powder or pill form, and has become a staple in our routine.
Add (the right) Multivitamin to Your Routine

Add Young Living's Inner Boost and Balance to your water or NingXia Red (especially great after a workout). This powder is a delicious multivitamin that supports healthy skin and aging and includes vitamin B complex plus A, D, E, and Iron - all essentials that are needed for hair health and growth.
Drink 2oz of NingXia Red daily
NingXia Red is an antioxidant powerhouse beverage that our whole team adores! The juice is made from the superfruit Wolfberry, plus Blueberry, Pomegranate, Plum and Cherry and has been clinically proved to support the whole body – find a snapshot of the powerful research here!
