This article is to help you better understand this important system of the body and how to promote wellness. What about my sinuses? As a Craniosacral Therapist, I am asked this question tens of times monthly. Many years ago Brigette Bowler, DC pointed out that anti-histamines’ dry out the sinus membranes which may impede the natural flow of sinus fluids. This is a common remedy many of our patients have used for years prior to coming under structural care.
As a craniosacral therapist, I am intrigued by how the “brain drains” itself and maintains fluid balance. One thing I am certain about is that sinuses play an important role in the healthy turnover of fluids and the health of the cranium.
Structural alignments deeply impact the function of the sinuses. Have you noticed your sinuses draining more rapidly during or after a session of craniosacral therapy or a chiropractic adjustment? By removing the interference in the nervous system and restoring balance in the body the positive changes may sometimes have an uncomfortable side effect called a healing crisis. This healing crisis often is reported in the sinuses. It is an opportunity to celebrate that your body and brain are getting healthier and an opportunity to break chemical dependence of your sinus medications.
Our sinuses may be influenced by 1000's of different external stimuli and inner terrain conditions. Sinuses, being the intermediary between the air we breathe and respiratory system, are influenced by external factors like seasonal environmental circumstances. Pollen, dust, industrial toxins, emissions to name only a few. I know the day the rag weed comes into bloom. I will wake up with my eyes burning and sinuses swollen. You likely have an environmental trigger too.
What other major condition influences our body? Since taking over the counter medications or prescriptions works against the natural tendency of the body what can you do?
